Mommas don''t let their babies grow up to be cowboys, and David Nay''s momma was no different. She let him pick guitars and drive them old trucks, but there were no dogs and cattle and horses and such.

She was a music teacher and wanted David to be a musician. He was a natural with a guitar, mandolin or stand-up bass, but David just had to heed another call.

Dave dropped out and moved out at 18, bought himself his first pair of real cowboy boots and drove to Montana with $40 in his pocket and a tank of gas. A decade later, he came back the same way.

Dave has herded, sorted, butchered, branded and doctored cattle, ridden fence, rodeoed, trapped for pelts, trained horses, farmed, shod horses and made and repaired saddles. He was a full-time horse-shoer until a draft horse laid down on him a few years ago.

"The doctor told me to find a way to shoe without bending over," he says, rolling his eyes.

He turned to leather work while he mended. Now 47, he makes custom saddles and repairs tack , designs custom leather straps, case handles, and about anything he can think of that would look good in leather.

Aside from being able to create just about anything with leather, Dave also performs in several bands, one of with includes his talented wife and daughters. If there is music around Dave he is sure to be right there playing along.

Dave''s love of leather shows through in all of his creations. If you have an idea for something in leather chances are high he can do it.His creations are not your ordinary "run of the mill" production designs, His are hand crafted from the finest materials, and are built to last a lifetime.

Dave has created straps for many people, from the folks around the area to Sonny Osborne. If you are interested in one of Dave''s creations please contact The Acoustic Musician and they can start the design process, or pick up one of his creations on their website, or at their store.
